Naxos named Top Destination as Cyclades become the stars of a special tribute to Greece by top Scandinavian tourist magazine Vagabond
14th Mar 2021
A list with the best Greek islands to visit, was published earlier this week by Vagabond, Scandinavia’s leading travel publication, and the most popular magazine in Denmark.
The list is a part of the magazine’s bigger tribute to Greece, which aims to highlight the beauties of Greece and the Greek islands and to encourage holidays to Greece for Summer 2021.
The top 7 Greek islands were voted by Scandinavian travellers, who have previously visited Greece and talked about their experiences in the country.
While some highly popular islands were included in the list, some lesser known islands called “hidden gems” of Greece, also made the tribute.
Naxos occupied the first spot on the list because the Vagabond magazine voters were “enchanted by the island with the sandy dreamy beaches and the crystal-clear waters that have featured in international film productions.”
Gikas Gikas, mayor of the island of Ios, stated that “the pandemic will not win.”
“We managed to keep our strength, despite the adversities of 2020.
“This year we are preparing two new websites, a new tourist logo and thematic videos in order to highlight all the dimensions of our island.
“At the same time, we can see that our hard work pays off, as we are present in tributes by large foreign media.”
Also referring to the Vagabond tribute, Vangelis Katsaras, deputy mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Naxos and Small Cyclades, stated that “under these unprecedented circumstances, we have not stopped creating the conditions for our destinations to be world leaders.”
“The preserved beauty, sights, gastronomy and the people of our islands are just some of the main reasons people from around the world visit us.”
The top 7 islands as listed by Vagabond magazine are:
- Naxos (Νάξος), Cyclades
2. Andros (Άνδρος), Cyclades
3. Mykonos (Μύκονος), Cyclades
4. Santorini (Σαντορίνη), Cyclades
5. Koufonisia (Κουφονήσια)
6. Milos (Μήλος), Cyclades
7. Ios (Ίος), Cyclades
